Skin Disorder in Cat
The Pet Lover's Guide to Cat & Dog Skin Disease Part of the Pet Lover's Guide series, this handbook covers the most common topics of skin disease in small animals, their causes, and their medical management in a non-technical, informative, and useful manner accessible to both veterinarians and pet owners. The book is organized by skin disorder type, and then alphabetically by disease. Information for each disease is divided into signs, causes, possible secondary consequences, treatment/management, and complications or what to look for. Other topics addressed include healthy haircoat, bathing and grooming your pet, and preventive measures such as flea control.
Compulsive skin picking - Compulsive skin picking (CSP) is a nervous disorder characterized by the repeated urge to pick at one's own skin, often to the extent that damage is caused. The disorder is known by many other names: dermatillomania, chronic skin picking, neurotic excoriation and acne excoriee. Sphynx (cat) - The Sphynx (aka Canadian Hairless) is a rare breed of cat with extremely little fur, or at most a short fuzz over its body, and no whiskers (vibrissae). Their skin is the color their fur would be, and all the usual cat marking patterns (solid, point, van, tabby, tortie, etc) may be found in Sphynx too. Seborrhoeic dermatitis - Seborrhoeic dermatitis is a skin disorder affecting the scalp, face and trunk causing scaly, flaky, itchy, red skin. It particularly affects the sebum-gland rich areas of skin. Cutaneous larva migrans - Cutaneous larva migrans is a skin disease in humans, caused by a parasitic larvae called Ancylostoma braziliense. These parasites are found in dog and cat faeces and are able to penetrate the outer layers of the skin and creep around underneath the skin.
